You’ve read it before, maybe here, maybe elsewhere. The amount of food we waste, thanks to our image-obsessed culture, outdated or misguided public policies, and capitalist food systems edging our planet toward the brink of disaster, is appalling, shameful.
Enter local heroes: Plataforma Aprofitem els Aliments. Food is a treasure, they tell us (they’re not talking about Doritos), and we should treat it as such. They’ve had enough of your contempt for grisly greens, disfigured daikon, beastly-looking broccoli or poor, misproportioned peppers. To help you back to the path of righteousness they’re organizing a free banquet for 1,000 people (yes, you read that right) at La Pionera on the 24th. All of the food will be cooked with “aliments recuperats” or, in other words, fruit and vegetables underestimated and underappreciated by the commercial food industry. Volunteer to help them pull this off, and to help yourself to Mother Earth’s delicious bounty.
