Barcelona entrepreneurial stories beginning with something similar to “I worked in advertising and realized that every day I wanted to rip out my eyeballs and carve out my soul” are becoming a Shortlist category of their own. And while Juanma and La Patente’s story isn’t quite that intense, we want to take the opportunity to thank the advertising industry for burning out its creatives so we get, in turn, beautiful new cooking schools. Juanma’s afternoons are now spent in an open rectangular space half-filled with two stoves, two stovetops, two extractors, a dishwasher, a huge marble work surface, plenty of lighting, a dining room table that seats nine and about six shelves of cocktail glasses. The rest of the local is left pleasantly open. The plan: culinary and cocktail classes and workshops with a twist in an attractive venue, e.g. The Cakes of NYC, Madmen-inspired cocktails or La Cocina “de Rodríguez”. Starting at €35/person and with the priciest class at €48.50/person (because of the foie!) this is a deal. Three hours of drinking while learning to cook something you then eat for dinner? Yes, please! And it gets better for private groups. Feel free to invite us.
