Mono opened a year and a half ago along an odd stretch on Calàbria where, to be honest, there isn’t much going on. And, since they didn’t opt for cutesy café or fancy schmancy, they went somewhat unnoticed. But it only took one menú del día (9.90 euros) and we were sold. Codillo outstanding. Risotto, spot-on. And then there was an espuma de yogur con compota de ciruela y streusel that was holy-shit-good.

Nadja (Deutschland) and Alan (Italia) focus on food and a friendly neighborhood vibe and they have nailed it. Regulars they have, since you eat here once and don’t soon forget it. Credit is due as well to the chef, Sergio (Chile). It’s immediately obvious that he likes his job, that there’s love in the food. One might even recommend things not yet tasted, such as the best-selling burgers or the green curry with prawns. No doubt they’re bomb. Get in there for their Jueves Mono (20:30 – 22:30) for a variety of 1-euro-tapas light-years beyond any other 1-euro offer. Don’t forget to thank them for a price-quality ratio worth celebrating and for keeping the beer and coffees at reasonable prices.
