How were your Junes? If anything could be deduced from what just happened in our town it’s that small-scale fun on the cheap can definitely be had if you choose your spot wisely. This July and August this columnist urges you to get the fecking crap out of town and leave these sweating goons to their heat traps. The action is outside in the evening this season and you know this, maaaaan.

I’m putting Festival’Era on July 22nd at the top of the list. It’s a bit of a bus ride into upmarket Girona backwaters but the charming farm is worth the trip and the festival has once again nailed a line-up to please e’rybody. Detroit techno brothers Octave One play live. Triangulo de Amor Bizarro are loud and saturated. Dark Sky are future-fun and Manel will provoke the most fervent regional pride. There are no tourists and you’re well looked after. Bet!

Going even further afield, L’Estrany is another small-scale hoedown in deep Girona. It takes place August 4th and 5th in Bosc de Can Ginebreda, home to a museum of erotic sculptures. Now in its ninth year, the two-day jump-off will feature artists selected by fine collectives like 2.0 selectors Marabú, power indie label Famèlic and deep trap from ColdChain. Advance tickets are 30€.

¡Exclusivo! Moonstock is back this year. Despite the untimely demise of Dead Moon Records, a few select local businesses are re-occupying Carrer Lluna during the Festa Major del Raval. Last year’s debut was heavy and this year will welcome the synth pop of Paralelo, garage outfits Bruises and Los Jatos Locos plus DJ sets from Ylia and Discos Paradiso Crew. July 15th all day til 3am.

Any other business: Upmarket nanoclub Bajofondo has opened on Rambla Raval, Discos Paradiso will announce their reissue record label, Urpa i Musell, and, finally, your summer jam is by Susana Estrada and is entitled ‘Hagámoslo Juntos.’ Don’t sleep!
