This place has a press book that is biblical in proportions, and while we don’t tend to cover that which has already been covered so thoroughly, Manolo is a classic and must be included. Enter into a bar that’s a blend between a generic bar manolo (how fitting) and a rustic country bodega. We went for the vermut, which may be the best in the city. While we were sipping ours (off hours) a couple came in, filled a 2-liter bottle from the large barrel along the wall, stopped at the counter to pay and order two vermuts, drank them, and left happy. It just seemed reaffirming. And at 1,65€ this is big-time bang for your buck. It’s busiest at lunch and dinner, and although se nota la crisis, people can’t stay far away from their well-known bacalao, foie (hígado) cocinado con oporto and anchoas cantábricas. One of their newer creations is a classy Mediterranean take on nachos: potato crisps with melted brie and escalivada, topped with fried onion bits…um…YES, PLEASE!
