Movember is upon us and that can only mean three things: mo’staches, mo’clothes and mo’music. BCN Més always looks forward to the penultimate month of the year as it presents the best reason to board the red line to Sant Andreu and relish our city’s most progressive electronic arts festival: Mira. Combining a line-up of visual and musical maestros, the annual get-together enjoys the perfectly refurbished post-industrial setting of Fabra i Coats to present A/V shows. This year’s event takes place from the 10th to the 13th and includes personal favourites Throwing Snow, old schoolers Esplendor Geométrico and the elusive Zomby.
Another ill fixture in your alternative music diary ought to be Cønjuntø Vacíø. On the fifth of the month, the label celebrates its fourth festival with an appropriate assortment of dark arts in the far-flung outpost of La Capsa in El Prat. Highlights of this year’s selection of cold wave, synth pop and sharp noise come in the shape of Molly Nilsson, Phase Fatal and the organisers’ brand new act, SDH. As ever, all acts feature on an impeccably presented limited edition EP available at the show – and afterwards at Dead Moon, if you get caught slippin’.
Quietly establishing itself over the last couple of years, the Spanish branch of online radio Dublab has finally got itself a studio and launched a complete program of Barcelona’s keenest underground ears to present shows on the daily. The official launch and presentation goes down at Miscelanea on the 25th and 26th and includes sets by radio hosts Sunny Graves, Alicia Carrera and DJ Shak, plus live performances from Ivy Barkakati and Ilia Mayer, amongst several credible others.
I want to wrap up with a lil shout out to the Ponent Roots rudeboys in Lleida town, who will undoubtedly nail their fifth festival of funk, reggae and soul in Catalunya’s least fashionable capital on 11th November. Well worth a trip for the finest in beats, rhymes and snails.
