Everyone is mad for music in May after the precipitation pissed on all our best-laid parades last month. Big yourself up if you were one of the few that carried on regardless of the wind and rain to keep your scene alive. It’s just long days and bright skies ahead now, and we’re delighted to share a few open-air events to make sure you make the most of our town’s amazing outdoor expanses.
The whippersnappers at Ameba deserve full support for announcing their fourth Parkfest, set in the sumptuous surroundings of the Parc de l’Espanya Industrial in Sants. On May 26th, this unique and free event promoting electronic music, spraycan art and afternoon beers in the shade runs from 1pm to midnight. There are workshops to arouse your curiosity in synthetic music production, activities to occupy kids and a lineup of Barcelona-based DJs which includes Més favourites Ylia, Headbirds and Telexketch. And, this year Sala Apolo will welcome anyone who doesn’t have to be home before midnight.
The current season of Brunch -In The City includes a couple of excursions away from Poble Espanyol to the Petit Amfiteatre del Mar at the Fòrum, where the dramatic architecture, sea breezes and occasional whiff of water treatment will accompany this ever-increasing afternoon entertainment behemoth. We’re loath to give inches to such a corporate humdinger, but the artists contracted on the 13th of the month are preeminent in their fields. Manchester scribbler Mr. Scruff pilots a five-hour set, and precocious Scot Jasper James will lay it down, but most heads will be braving the bespectacled throngs to peep the rough Detroit 2.0 stylings of Omar S.
And, presupuesto permitting, a visit to La Terrrazza on the 26th is not a bad shout. The joint is swish and this month’s usual tech-housery will be shook up by facial hair’s Tornado Wallace, the antipodean disco whisperer.
