Festival Cara·B is back! Another fine excuse to relocate to Sant Andreu for the weekend (17.02 + 18.02). The two-night affair showcases national treasures from a healthy variety of scenes. AGZ are killing it as Madrid’s answer to Drake. Belle du jour Bad Gyal’s Carribean dancehall stylings are unmissable, complimented by Meneo’s occasionally disrobed tropical selections. BSN Posse are the stars of footwork on these shores, and we’d pick Yumi Yumi Hip Hop as the lo-fi indie rookie sensations of 2016. €25 seems cheap to me for your first wristband of ‘17.
That same weekend Razzmatazz hosts another of their well-attended Journeys sessions, just going to show that Barcelona can be persuaded into a discothèque before 02:59h. Supported by the adorable Canela en Surco digger crew, Floating Points once again embarks on a five-hour odyssey of classic disco and Brazilian obscurities. Eat early and turn up ready to sway from 8pm on Saturday 18th.
You may well be bushed if you make it through all that excitement, but I have further instructions. Cercle (on Sundays) celebrate their second birthday this month on Sunday 19th at micro-club Macarena with the unflinching techno of Austrian-based Codex Empire, hosted by capo Guim Lebowski alongside tough customers RNXRX and Nico.
Our last feature aims to decentralise leisure time even further in Barcelona. Like many, I had slept on El Pumarejo til now, but this year the cultural association up in Vallcarca will surely make it onto the map of essential cultural hubs. A great date to check out the venue comes as La Castanya present the acoustic appearance of Isasa and Albufera on Saturday 25th.
